Eriez, a Pennsylvania-based manufacturer of magnetic separation, metal detection and materials feeding, screening, conveying and controlling equipment, is presenting and exhibiting at the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) World Recycling Convention and Exhibition, May 26-28 at the Feria Valencia Convention Center in Valencia, Spain.

The company will highlight its Shred1 Ballistic Separator, a technology that it claims enhances ferrous scrap purity, boosts recovery efficiency and increases profitability for recyclers.

The BIR World Recycling Convention attracts over 1,500 industry professionals for expert-led discussions, market insights and networking opportunities.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore Eriez’s latest innovations in metal separation and connect with industry experts. A key highlight will be a presentation by Manuel Andreis, Eriez area sales manager for Italy, who will detail how Shred1 technology optimizes scrap processing. Using ballistics-based separation, the Shred1 sorts iron-rich ferrous materials from mixed metals after the drum magnet, resulting in two high-value fractions.

The first fraction is a premium low-copper ferrous product. According to the company, it has copper content below 0.2 percent and exceeds market requirements.

The second fraction is a traditional No. 2 Shred, a mixed metal that is ready for further processing or recycling.

The company says that by incorporating the Shred1 Ballistic Separator, scrap processors can reduce copper contamination, meet rising demand from steel mills for low-copper shred, and eliminate manual sorting—thereby reducing labor costs and increasing operational efficiency.

“Shred1 has proven to be a game-changer for our clients across the globe," says Liam Gulwell, Eriez’s regional business development manager for the United Kingdom and Ireland. "As steelmakers increasingly demand premium low-copper shred, this breakthrough technology empowers recyclers to unlock new levels of performance and profitability in a fiercely competitive market.”
