Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), Fresno, California, has named Allen Hershkowitz its senior sustainability advisor. Hershkowitz is the co-founder and current president of the Green Sports Alliance (GSA), an organization that encourages measurable actions that preserve natural resources, protect species and strengthen communities within the global sports industry.
Hershkowitz served as senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for 26 years from 1988 to 2014, helping to grow NRDC into one of the most influential and largest environmental organizations in the world. During his time with the NRDC, he directed three of the organization’s highest profile projects: the Sports and Entertainment Greening Project, the Solid Waste Project and the Paper Industry Project.
John Shegerian, chairman and CEO of ERI, says of Hershkowitz, “We are tremendously honored to have him join us as senior sustainability advisor. His knowledge and experience is truly second to none.
“As ERI continues to set the bar high in terms of standards for our industry, and for sustainable organizations in general, we are confident that Allen’s wisdom and contributions will be significant,” he adds.
ERI says it processes more than 275 million pounds of electronic scrap each year at its eight locations in the United States.
