Austria-based companies Erema GmbH and Lindner Washtech have announced they have established a subsidiary in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. The announcement was made at the Plast India trade fair last week.

The companies held a ceremony in affiliation with the trade fair that was attended by about 125 invited guests, say Erema and Lindner Washtech, including customers, industry representatives, members of the press and representatives from institutes and associations.

The joint sales and service subsidiary is a response to “the growing demand for high-quality recycling solutions in India’s rapidly expanding market,” say the European firms, adding tht with the new subsidiary, Erema and Lindner Washtech have strengthened their presence in a market “characterized by ambitious recycling targets and fast implementation.”

“I am honored to take on the role of managing director of Erema India, building on a 27-year partnership with the Erema Group,” says Deepak Mehta, who also is a partner of Erema India.

“By combining our long-standing market experience with Erema’s and Lindner Washtech’s vision, we are strengthening our presence in this rapidly growing market,” says Mehta. “I look forward to working together to create sustainable value for India’s recycling industry."

“India is one of the most dynamic markets for plastics recycling worldwide,” says Manfred Hackl, CEO of the Erema Group. “With Erema India, we are creating the framework to support our customers even more precisely. The close interaction between local presence and combined system expertise is the key to accompanying the Indian market in its rapid development.”

Erema and Lindner Washtech say plastic consumption in India is expected to increase more than fivefold between 2019 and 2026. To address the resulting increased generation in plastic scrap, the country has introduced extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations.

In the plastic bottle-to-bottle sector, some 25 recycling plants with a total capacity of approximately 600,000 metric tons annually are expected to be installed by 2026, say the firms.

“The Indian market is developing at an impressive pace,” says Christoph Wöss, global sales director at Erema. “The combination of regulatory tailwinds and increasing quality requirements makes India a strategically important growth market.”

Erema India can provide Indian recyclers with access to European technology for washing, extrusion and thermal decontamination, say the firms. In addition to the Vadodara location, the companies also have staffed a sales and service office in Mumbai.

“Lindner’s washing equipment plays a crucial role in ensuring a stable and reliable treatment process, which together with Erema’s extrusion technology provides recyclers with integrated system expertise enabling them to consistently produce food-grade quality [material], increase production efficiency and achieve long-term operational excellence,” says Ganesh Karankal, a sales director and at Erema India.

“In the bottle-to-bottle sector, our polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling technologies are already in successful operation with several Indian customers, giving them an edge with the best color values and polymer properties,” says Maharshi Mehta, another sales director at Erema India.

The firms says they also intend to offer equipment to handle discarded high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) plastic.
