Erasteel, Hunter-BenMet Sign Agreement

Erasteel looks to increase scrap consumption.

Hunter-BenMet Associates, New York, has signed a scrap supplier agreement with Erasteel Inc., Fairfield, N.J. Erasteel Inc. is part of Eramet, a specialty steels maker based in Sweden with facilities in several countries.

“We were looking at ways to increase our commitment to utilize more secondary materials within our production facilities, and to assist our customers with viable recycling programs,” says Tom Hill, president of Erasteel Inc.

Erasteel makes what it calls high speed steels, which include powder-metallurgy steels used in cutting and drilling tools and other applications.

“Working primarily with long established dealer contacts, I intend to use my first-hand knowledge of high speed steel scrap processing to bring about increase scrap supplies as the direct link between the processor and the consumer,” says Barry Hunter, a principal of Hunter-BenMet.

“As scrap flows are not in our area of expertise, working through the experience of Hunter-BenMet Associates will give us the opportunity to pursue and achieve these goals in an open relationship with scrap suppliers, our customers and our production facilities,” says Erasteel’s Hill of the new agreement.
