The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting two public meetings on its proposed new safeguards for hazardous secondary materials recycling to protect public health and the environment.
The proposal modifies EPA’s 2008 Definition of Solid Waste (DSW) rule, which revised hazardous waste regulations to encourage the recycling of hazardous secondary materials.
The first meeting was Sept. 12 in Philadelphia, while the second is scheduled for Sept. 15 in Chicago.
Parties interested in registering to attend the meetings are asked to visit www.epa.gov/wastes/hazard/dsw/rulemaking.htm.
Comments also may be submitted online through www.regulations.gov using docket number EPA-HQ-RCRA-2010-0742. The agency has extended the comment period for this rulemaking by 30 days until Oct. 20, 2011.
More information about the proposed rule changes is available at www.epa.gov/waste/hazard/dsw/rulemaking.htm.
