Envelope Group Signs European Pledge

European Federation of Envelope Manufacturers signs paper recycling pledge.

The European Recovered Paper Council (ERPC), Brussels, has announced that the European Federation of Envelope Manufacturers (FEPE) has signed on to a continent-wide declaration to support paper recycling.

As a signatory to The European Declaration on Paper Recycling of the European Recovered Paper Council, FEPE joins forces with other industry players to enhance eco-design for improved recyclability and increased collection of paper and paperboard in Europe.

With the signature of Dr. Klaus Schulz, FEPE president, in early March, FEPE is now the 14th paper industry group to have pledged its support to the declaration, which has as a goal to increase Europe’s recycling rate to 66 percent by 2010. The current paper recycling rate in Europe is calculated at 63.4 percent.

The declaration “focuses on complementary actions by all of the sectors involved and gives priority to the prevention of waste, improving the recyclability of paper and board products, as well as further improving the quality of recovered paper available for recycling,” according to the ERPC.

Objectives of the declaration include research and development in paper recycling technology and raising public awareness. More information on the program can be found at www.paperrecovery.eu.
