ECORE Group Strengthens its Business in Western Europe

Dutch recycler expands its operations with purchase of two scrap metal recyclers.

The scrap metal recycling company ECORE Group, based in the Netherlands, has announced the acquisition of two scrap metal recyclers that it says will help it grow its business throughout Europe.

In a deal announced Nov. 18, 2011, ECORE said it acquired the Luxemburg-based company Recylux, which specializes in recycling both ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. Recylux operates 11 collection and processing sites in Luxemburg, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Additionally, Recylux operates three auto shredders. In total Recylux salvages and recycles around 1 million tons of scrap metal per year.

In a statement, ECORE says the deal will allow the company to growth and consolidate its position as one of the leaders in recycling in Europe. The company adds that the purchase of Recylux will provide commercial synergies across Europe’s North East for its Guy Dauphin Environnement (GDE) subsidiary, which will manage the newly acquired operations.

The deal follows on the heels of ECORE’s acquisition of the metals recycling company Metalifer, located in eastern France. That deal, announced Nov. 3, will result in Metalifer being integrated into ECORE’s GDE subsidiary, the second largest recycling company in France. While GDE has a significant presence in France, the purchase of Metalifer gives the company its first presence in the eastern part of the country.

Metalifer operates 11 collection sites in France, and is involved in the recovery, processing and sale of various types of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Metalifer also operates an aluminum foundry.

According to ECORE, Metalifer processes around 400,000 tons of ferrous and nonferrous metal per year. The company will operate under the name GDE-Metalifer. A spokesman for the company adds that the acquisition of Metalifer will give ECORE a strong platform to service the German market.

Combining the two recently acquired companies GDE will operate around 70 scrap metal facilities in France, although the company expects to consolidate some operations in the near future.

ECORE adds it also will significantly boost its export opportunities with the addition of Recylux’s logistics hubs in Dordrecht and Maastricht, Netherlands; and Rouen, France.
