Encina Development Group, a company based in The Woodlands, Texas, that produces circular chemicals from plastic scrap, has added Carlos Cabrera to its board of directors.

Cabrera currently serves as the executive chairman of the board of directors of Genomatica, a firm focused on bioengineering and commercial bio-based processes. According to a news release from Encina, he is also a member of the board of directors of the Gas Technology Institute and a distinguished associate at FGE, a global energy consultancy.

Cabrera was formerly chairman, president and CEO of UOP LLC, a Honeywell Co., which supplies and licenses process technology and services to petrochemical, refining and gas processing industries. He received the Honeywell 2008 senior leadership award, which is that company’s highest honor awarded to its leaders. He previously served as the executive chairman of Ivanhoe Energy; a director at Gevo; and CEO of China’s National Institute of Low Carbon and Clean Energy.

This February, Cabrera was also inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for leadership in developing and commercializing widely adopted processes for fuels and intermediate chemicals.

“Carlos’ global industry expertise and strong leadership will be invaluable to Encina as we grow our business to deliver highly valued circular chemicals to the marketplace,” says David Schwedel, executive director of Encina.

Cabrera adds, “Circular economy inspires a different way of thinking about waste and production. Encina’s unique plastics-to-circular chemical technology helps customers advance their sustainability goals and practices.”
