European Metal Recycling, headquartered in Warrington, U.K., has opened a new nonferrous division at its Rochdale, U.K., facility. The Rochdale plant is the company’s oldest depot in the U.K. The completion of the new department has been timed to coincide with several additional site improvements to enhance efficiency and service for people coming into the depot.
The depot was first opened in the 1960’s when it was opened as the first Sheppard Group site. The Sheppard Group merged with Cooper Holdings in 1994 to become EMR.
Along with replacing the original offices, EMR has added concrete to the site to provide greater efficiency and better safety. Additionally, space at the site has been made at the depot’s entrance to accommodate large deliveries, as well as prevent congestion at the weighbridge and speed up turnaround times.
“Rochdale will always be at the heart of EMR as home to our oldest yard,” says Ian Sheppard, EMR’s GM. “It’s important to us that we continue to meet the needs of our customers in the area by providing them with a safe and efficient environment every time they make a delivery and get the best possible return on their scrap.”
EMR operates more than 70 depots in the U.K. and 150 worldwide.
