Electronics Recycling Program Set

11th International Program set for this May.

The IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Electronics and the Environment and the International Association of Electronics Recyclers announced the 11th International Symposium on Electronics and the Environment and the 4th Electronics Recycling Summit will be held May 19-22, 2003 in Boston. The events are also designated as the 2003 Going Green International Congress and Exhibition.

Going Green was initiated as a major rotating international conference to provide a focal point for the global electronics industry. Going Green is an international forum for presenting environmental topics pertinent to electronics manufacturers, university researchers, consultants, recyclers, and others.  A key feature of the event is research papers from many universities and research institutes in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

This event will provide an opportunity for the electronics industry and the electronics recycling industry to share technical and scientific knowledge, as well as the latest operational and management strategies, business practices, and regulatory concerns.  The event will bring together engineers, managers, electronics recyclers, and others engaged in research, development, manufacturing, and recycling of electronic products.

2003 Symposium and SUMMIT highlights will include updates on environmental design, manufacturing, research, marketing, recycling practice, and policy from world leaders in industry, academia, consulting, recyclers and public policy areas.  The event features the most comprehensive and highest quality coverage of the environmental and recycling aspects of electronics and is organized by a large international committee of experts.

Event Features are:

-           19 technical sessions of selected papers

-           4 full days of events - including tutorials, guest speakers, exhibits, tours and meetings

-           Going Green Plenary Speakers Brad Allenby, Vice President AT&T, Eileen Clausen, President of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, Chris Tuppen, British Telecommunications Group, chair of the Global e- Sustainability Initiative in association with UNEP and ITU

-           SUMMIT plenary speaker: John Howard, Federal Environmental Executive, The White House

The Electronics Recycling SUMMIT Forum Session provides an opportunity for the electronics manufacturing and recycling community to address lingering questions and possible misperceptions surrounding the export of scrap materials from the U.S. for recycling. The Forum will include a panel of representatives who can illustrate the roles they play in the global electronics recycling infrastructure, and what impact proposed regulatory changes discussed earlier in the program may have on their ability to provide environmentally sound materials recovery services.
