A new electronics recycling company has opened in Hagerstown, Md. The company is led by several principals of a former electronics recycling operation. That facility was called DMC/INTERCO. That company closed late last year after losing a large Department of Defense contract.
Several principals of the former operation have combined their talents and created a new enterprise - Freedom Electronics Recycling, Inc.
Rick Schulman, president and general manager, said the decision to reopen was easy. “It made sense to continue. We have the necessary skills and qualified people available, plus there are clients who still need the services we provided”, said Schulman.
Freedom Electronics Recycling, Inc. officially opened its doors for business January 13. The goal of the facility is to handle around 200,000 pounds of electronics equipment a month.
Freedom Electronics Recycling’s will be providing environmentally responsible, secure, comprehensive electronics recycling services using best-in-class E-cycling principles.
Along with processing the electronics material, one big advantage to the service will be the ability to ensure that all information on a computer's hard drive, as well as sensitive information, will be totally deleted.
“Since our focus is on clients located in the Mid-Atlantic region, Hagerstown is a great location for our business. The company will be operating in a 250-mile radius, according to a spokeswoman for the company. The coverage area will include a host of large cities, including Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
According to the company, the facility’s close proximity to Washington, DC and the Federal Government is an added benefit.
“We are extremely excited about our new venture and look forward to serving companies and agencies who understand the importance of a sound E-cycling program,” said Schulman.
The company hopes to achieve ISO 14001 certification this year.
Material the company will accept include the following: Computers, Monitors, Printers, Fax Machines, Copiers, Scanners, Projection equipment, Plotters, Peripherals, Telecommunications equipment, Phone Systems, Security equipment, UPS Systems, Cell phones, VCRs.
