Waste Management & Recycling Products Inc., Schenectady, N.Y., will hold a grand opening ceremony for its new electronics demanufacturing, disassembly and destruction operations center next week.
“This new center quadruples our existing space and allows for more automation for recycling,” says Peter Bennison, vice president of business development for the company. “Presently this facility employs 14 people, and we will be adding an additional four positions by the first quarter of 2003.”
Waste Management & Recycling Products Inc. recycles computer components and accessories including CRTs, monitors, hard drives, modems, cables, and printers as well as office equipment and electronics, medical equipment and telephone systems.
The company refurbishes some equipment and also pulls out re-saleable components and steel, nonferrous metal and plastic parts that can be recycled. “There is no shredding at this point,” says Bennison. :It’s in our plans for our next phase. We looked at it, but the shredding operation has to have several [pieces of downstream equipment] afterward.”
Waste Management & Recycling Products Inc. offers full asset recovery and surplus inventory services to its corporate and institutional client base. “We build strong strategic relationships with our clients,” says Bennison. “They focus on their core business and we focus on recycling, waste, and surplus streams.”
The company’s grand opening event takes place Weds., Sept. 18 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The new location is Building 405 at the Scotia-Glenville Industrial Park in Glenville, N.Y.
Events include a presentation by Peter R. Muscanelli, president of the International Association of Electronics Recyclers, Albany, N.Y., and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by New York State Senator Hugh T. Farley. Other state, city and business leaders will also be present. There will be a tour of the facility and a reception where refreshments will be served.
“I am so enthusiastic about this exciting new facility,” says Senator Farley. “As former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environmental Conservation, I know the significance of electronics recycling, so I am especially pleased to see a growing Schenectady company in the lead in this environmentally and economically important field.”
In May 2001, Waste Management & Recycling Products opened an office at Research Triangle Park in the Raleigh / Durham area of North Carolina. The company has seen double digit increases in fiscal growth since its inception.
Its primary clients include large corporations, government agencies, universities and hospitals, but it also coordinates municipal collection events.
