Waste Management and Recycling Products Inc. of Scotia has completed a five-year, $600,000 expansion project that will keep the company recycling up to 150 tons of electronics per month. Additionally, the company’s expansion will allow the company to expand their operations as much as 500 tons of electronic equipment a month.
While a majority of the material that comes through the company's doors are computer related, Peter Bennison, CEO for WMRP, notes that the company also takes in telecommunications equipment, medical equipment and other electronic equipment.
Since 2000, the company has invested $300,000 in the expansion project, while Empire State Development Corp. and Schenectady Economic Development Corp. invested the other $300,000.
The last piece of equipment the company installed was a 50 horsepower shredder that destroys hard drives, as well as other types of electronic equipment or media containing sensitive data.
The company also announced that it has relocated its office to the Scotia Glenville, NY Industrial Park. The move is expected to streamline the company’s operations, as well as help to facilitate the increased production levels at the plant.

Peter Bennison, vice president, Business Development since 1998, has been named CEO. Bennison began the transition to the role of CEO this past September.
David Furlow, operations manager since 1999, has been promoted to vice president, Business Development.
Joseph Pallotolo, vice president, Administration has been promoted, and named vice president, director of Logistics.
Holly Reynolds is the new customer service specialist with the company.
