EL PASO-New rules about how shipments of scrap metal can enter the U.S. won’t take effect until the end of the month, after federal officials heard serious concerns about the changes from industry reps.
About 60 representatives of U.S. companies that import scrap metal from manufacturers in Juárez met with federal customs officials in El Paso last week.
“There was a lot of misunderstanding or lack of information that caused a large uproar amongst the people that would be affected and a lot of concern,” said Lane Gaddy, president of W Silver Recycling.
But things ended better than they started, he said.
