An article in the El Dorado News-Times, El Dorado, Arkansas, reports that the city’s recycling center will experience some operational changes after persistent instances of residents dropping off nonrecyclables.
In addition to household garbage and appliances, residents have left smaller items, such as paper, outside the enclosure over the weekend, which is then blown off the property and into the streets and surrounding neighborhood.
City officials are in discussion on how to deal with the influx of nonrecyclables cluttering the outside of the facility and overfilling the dumpsters. One possible solution is establishing a new location, the article says.
“We’ve outgrown it,” Robert Edmonds, director of public works, told the newspaper. “We want to find another place to put it and keep it fairly centrally located.”
The facility also has expanded its hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additionally, Edmonds told the newspaper it is considering additional weekend labor to meet demand.
“There’s going to be someone there all day, and we’re going to have a couple of employees to work for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon to make sure everything is tidied up,” he said.
