Edge Rubber has announced that it has doubled capacity for coarse crumb rubber production at its facility in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Edge Rubber has added a new cracker mill production line. The plant’s total capacity is now 72 million pounds per year of ambient crumb (in mesh sizes 8 through 30). This new cracker mill line was installed to meet the growing demand of several of Edge Rubber’s long-standing customers, to support new business and to improve the cost of production through scale, the company says.
“We’ve been so encouraged by the reception from our community and our industry the past few months, and we’re very excited to see this new line up and running,” says Edge Rubber CEO Sam Kauffman. Before restarting the company, Kauffman served as vice president and chief operating office of the firm when it closed in May 2016.
Edge Rubber reopened last November after a significant investment from Washington-based Anzu Partners, which has worked closely with Edge Rubber’s management team to reestablish itself in the rubber industry.
Edge Rubber engineers fine rubber powders for specific uses in sophisticated applications. Edge uses proprietary wet-grind technology to produce what it describes as “a premium, fine grade product with special surface characteristics providing recycled content and performance enhancement for the automotive and other industries.”
