Eddystone Council Approves Camden Iron’s Plan to Relocate Auto Shredder

Pennsylvania borough council approves preliminary plan by a 4-2 vote.

According to several news reports, at a meeting held the middle of June, the Eddystone, Pa., Borough Council, approved the preliminary land development application of Eastern Metal Recycling Terminal LLC, the first step in the location of Camden Iron & Metal's indoor automobile shredding facility. By a vote of 4-2, the council approved Camden Iron’s step to build the facility.

The decision to relocate the facility came over opposition from residents of Eddystone.

According to the Delco News Network, the preliminary land development approval came with 18 conditions set down by council governing such things as sound damping within the shredder enclosure, the height of the stacked scrap metal, compliance with all state regulations governing idling of vehicles, times that deliveries of the scrap will be accepted the company owner will give residents of the borough and surrounding region priority in new hires in any field and will provide job training where appropriate, and the applicant must comply with all federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations and obtain all required permits and approvals.

Also, no scrap metal will be accepted from peddlers, all loads of scrap metal delivered to the property will be visually inspected for prohibited materials and any with such materials will be rejected. The owner of the company will convey about 12 acres in the northeastern corner of the property to the borough for use as a borough park.
