Ecomaine is now accepting nominations for its 2025 Eco-Excellence Awards, an annual program designed to recognize individuals, businesses and organizations from Ecomaine communities that demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, according to the organization.
Ecomaine is a Portland, Maine-based agency responsible for recycling and waste management collection and disposition in more than 70 communities in Maine.
“For more than a decade, the Eco-Excellence Awards have celebrated Ecomaine community members who lead by example—reducing waste, increasing recycling and inspiring others to take action for a more sustainable future,” the agency says.
Nominations are open to individuals, schools, nonprofits, municipalities and businesses located in its communities.
Winners in 2024 included Sydney Harris and Suz Okie of the Reuse Maine organization; nonprofit initiative Common Threads of Maine; Piper Shores Sustainability Collaborative, another nonprofit group; and Peaks Renewables, which operates an anaerobic digestion facility in Clinton, Maine.
"Every year, we are inspired by the creative and dedicated sustainability efforts happening in our communities,” says Caleb Hemphill, a board member of Ecomaine. “These awards are our way of recognizing and celebrating the individuals and organizations making a real difference.”
Nominations for the 2025 eco-Excellence Awards will be accepted until April 5 and winners will be honored at the organization’s next annual meeting.
A nomination form for the awards is available through the Ecomaine website.
