Ecobat, headquartered in Dallas, has appointed Thomas P. Slabe as its new CEO, also naming him to the board. He replaces company Chairman Marcus Randolph in that role.
“We have great confidence in Tom and trust that he will provide the strong leadership necessary to support the next phase of Ecobat’s growth and future success,” Randolph says. “Tom’s diverse background, combined with successes at Neenah Enterprises and Contech Engineered Solutions, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the company and our team of talented global professionals. I look forward to working closely alongside and supporting Tom as Ecobat’s chairman.”
“I am honored and excited for this unique opportunity to lead Ecobat, a company with nearly 100 years of global leadership in our sector,” Slabe says. “No other company has our breadth of market knowledge and infrastructure for recycling of lead and lithium-ion batteries. I look forward to helping our customers and working with the Ecobat team in fulfilling the immense potential in front of us.”
Ecobat has decades of experience recycling and producing lead-acid battery materials and is applying its global capability, infrastructure and market knowledge to recycle lithium-ion battery materials. The company has operations throughout Europe and the United States, including 11 smelting facilities, three lithium-focused facilities, a collection truck fleet and 65,000 battery collection points.
Last February, Ecobat announced its plans to build a lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, that it says will initially produce an estimated 10,000 tons of recycled material per year, with plans to expand capacity in the future. The new facility will be Ecobat’s first LIB recycling facility in North America and its third overall.
The company already operates a facility nearby in Arizona facility where it has manufactured anodes for 15 years.
