Eco International to Close New York Facility

The electronics recycling company Eco International has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the New York State Department of Labor regarding its plans to close its electronics recycling facility in Vestal, N.Y. In its filings, the company expects to close down the recycling facility between Nov. 8 and Dec. 31, 2013. The company cited challenging economic conditions as the reason for closing the plant.

Eco International, which employs 82 people, has 20 years of experience in the electronics recycling industry, starting with a collaboration between IBM, Digital Equipment and Corning Glass that sought to find end markets for cathode ray tubes (CRTs). From there, the company expanded its operations to recycle all types of electronic scrap.
