Hong Kong-based Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., co-organizer of the annual Eco Expo Asia, say it welcomed record visitor numbers at the event, which attempts to display “the latest green tech and environmental protection solutions,” according to the firm.
The 13th edition of the show, held in Hong Kong Oct. 25-28, 2018, hosted more than 14,800 attendees from 106 countries and regions. With 54 percent of visitors coming from outside Hong Kong, the expo “lived up to its billing as an international gathering point for the environmental protection industry,” according to Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., which cooperates with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to organize the event.
The 2018 event highlighted environmental sectors including waste management and recycling, water treatment, green building, energy efficiency and “green” transportation. More than 330 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions participated.
Among the exhibitors was TOMRA Sorting Technology, a European firm with a regional operations center in Xiamen, China. Commented Andre Farstad, who is involved with business development/circular economy efforts with TOMRA, “We are exhibiting reverse vending machines for recycling items like plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles which operate on a user deposit scheme. We were thrilled to have the chance to speak with representatives from the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department and explain to them how the system works. We are exhibiting this year as we think our system would integrate very easily into Hong Kong and around Asia. The fair is a great chance to meet potential clients.”
The 2019 version of Eco Expo Asia has been scheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the same venue, the AsiaWorld-Expo center, which is near Hong Kong’s airport.
