EARN Offers WEEE Experience to American Market

Group of European companies markets WEEE-compliant electronics recycling to companies in the U.S.

The European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) is a group of four European recycling and environmental companies offering a set of services designed to help companies comply with the European Union’s WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive.

The four companies that have combined to form EARN (Coolrec, Electrocycling, Indumetal and Stena) say in an introductory news release that what they can provide “covers all necessary services related to the WEEE obligations. EARN’s main goal is to secure the producers’ compliance with European WEEE legislation.”

The four companies making up EARN “have many years of experience, especially regarding the environmentally responsible treatment of electronic appliances.” The company states that it has plants in most European countries, limiting the need for cross-border shipments.

The company’s facilities undertake “several shredding and separating steps. At the end, the separated output material fractions are sent to controlled third parties for further treatment and re-use as [the] final destination,” says EARN.

In addition to processing of materials, EARN, which is based in Goslar, Germany, also offers WEEE management services, says the company in its news release. Those services include helping with registration procedures, reporting requirements, compliance for packaging and batteries and logistics services.

The company’s service is being marketed to American companies. “The WEEE Directive is a European legislation but applies to all companies putting a product in the European market. We observe an increasing number of American companies requiring EARN to take care of their WEEE obligations in Europe. We offer US producers full WEEE compliance via one single point of contact,” states EARN in its news  release.
