E-Waste Recycling Company Breaks Ground in China

Facility expects to be complete by end of next year.

Loyalty Enterprises Group will soon break ground on China's first recycling center for discarded TVs and PCs in the Qingpu District of Shanghai.

Loyalty Enterprise has invested about $2 million to build the plant, which will cover 15,000 square meters. Once completed, the plant will be capable of processing up to 500,000 abandoned TVs and PCs per year. The plant is expected to begin operation at the end of next year.

"We will extract metals, glass and other materials from the discarded TVs and PCs," Zhang explained. "These materials will be either recycled further or sold directly to other companies."

The company hopes to make the facility profitable within three years. Revenues will be derived entirely from the sale of materials extracted from discarded TVs and PCs.

While initially the company will work with both local and foreign companies to supply material, as well as local universities, the company hopes to establish a network of recycling facilities throughout Shanghai that will be the collection point for the facility. Interfax
