SBA recognizes Dynamic Recycling

Wisconsin-based electronics recycler named one of the top small businesses in the country.

Onalaska, Wisconsin-based Dynamic Recycling, an information technology asset disposition (ITAD), electronics recycling, scrap purchasing and data security company, has been recognized by the U.S Small Business Administration (SBA) as the top small business in Wisconsin.

The company (profiled by Recycling Today in 2013) started in early 2007 with a 4,400-square-foot facility in Onalaska. Since then, the company has grown and is now expanding with a new facility across the street from its original plant. The new facility will boost its capacity to about 390,000 square feet and more than 200 employees.

Along with its Wisconsin operations, Dynamic Recycling operates wholly owned facilities in Minnesota and Tennessee. The company has been invited to ceremonies in Washington in late April 2018 to receive its individual SBA award, and co-founders Miles Harter and Curt Greeno are in the running for 2018 National Small Business Person of the Year honors.

Dynamic Recycling also will be honored in Wisconsin at the state’s 33rd annual SCORE/SBA Awards May 4, 2018. (SCORE stands for Service Corps of Retired Executives.)

“Dynamic Recycling represents the best of Wisconsin’s 445,000 small businesses,” says Eric Ness, Wisconsin’s SBA district director. “Through their innovation, growth using SBA financing, and community service, Miles Harter and Curt Greeno are contributing to their community as well as the economy. I congratulate them and look forward to celebrating their success during National Small Business Week.”

Harter says with the added capacity the company will be able to further expand the materials it handles from just electronic scrap, to include mixed shredded metals (zorba) and other types of scrap metal, possibly to include scrap motors.

Equipment to be installed at the new facility includes liberation and separation equipment, including five optical sorters. “In short, the new facility will allow us to handle steel and aluminum in an efficient manner,” Harter says. He also indicates that going forward automation and artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to grow.

As for being recognized by the SBA, Harter says a representative from the SBA, after seeing Dynamic Recycling’s operations, suggested the company apply for the award.

Despite winning the award, Harter says a key for the company is maintaining its value of humility. “At the end of the day, the world moves more rapidly,” he states. “As soon as you think you have made it, that’s when problems come. You always have to keep an eye on the future.

“Despite winning the award,” Harter continues, “our values and mission won’t change.”
