Durfor Named to Top Post at NRRA

NRRA names Michael Durfor as its executive director.

The Northeast Resource Recovery Association, a not-for-profit recycling cooperative based in Epsom, N.H., serving more than 390 municipal and commercial members in New England, has appointed Michael W. Durfor as its executive director.

“I am truly fortunate to be able to come to work each day with a dedicated staff committed to furthering recycling efforts throughout the entire Northeast Region,” says Durfor. “I look forward to continuing those efforts for years to come.”

Durfor, from of Sunapee, N.H., has been working on an interim basis with the association since December of 2008. During that time he has guided the staff at NRRA through initiatives including increased support for member services outreach and technical support programs, the new “Full of Scrap” bulletin, updated market pricing and a single-stream feasibility analysis.

When announcing the appointment, the board also credited Durfor for increasing the visibility of the NRRA School Recycling Club programs and for increasing cooperation among the family of northeast recycling associations that includes the Maine Resource Recovery Association, Mass Recycle and the Association of Vermont Recyclers.

“It is especially noteworthy that he came to NRRA at the height of the market turmoil late last year and that NRRA has maintained movement of material and competitive pricing for its cooperative membership,” says the group in its news release.

“Mike has done a truly remarkable job during a particularly difficult period,” says David Krisch, NRRA board president, from Swanzey, N. H. “The record attendance at the Annual Conference in June and the positive improvements in the overall management of the association are a true testament to Mike’s management skills. The board of directors adopted its 2009/2010 balanced budget last week in record order given the excellent preparation work done by Mike and the staff.”

The Northeast Resource Recovery Association was founded in 1981 by four New Hampshire communities to provide a clearinghouse for information and a source of technical and marketing assistance in the areas of waste reduction and recycling.
