UK company to install CM Hybrid shredder

Dundee Tyre Group is the first U.K. company to purchase this model.

Columbus McKinnon Corp. (CM), a Sarasota, Florida-based manufacturer of tire recycling systems, has announced that Dundee Tyre Group of Carlisle, England, has purchased its Hybrid shredder. While CM has numerous installations throughout the United Kingdom, this is the first Hybrid shredder to be sold there.

In 2011, Dundee Tyre installed one of CM’s tire shredding systems that can process passenger car tires down to 50-millimeter-by-50-millimeter (2-inch-by-2-inch) chips that are sold as tire-derived fuel and feedstock for crumb rubber production.

The company will use its new Hybrid shredder to process truck, farm and off-road tires. This will allow Dundee Tyre to expand its collection operations and achieve its growth initiatives, according to a news release issued by CM.

Simon Pluckrose, managing director and principal of Dundee Tyre, says among the many factors that influenced the company’s purchase of the Hybrid shredder was Dundee’s experience with CM after purchasing its first shredder from the company. He says the original machine has been extremely reliable during the past seven years, as has service from CM.

CM says it designed the Hybrid shredder specifically to process truck tires, therefore the heavy-duty unit is extremely well-built. It features CM’s patented knife system with replaceable inserts, giving the machine the lowest operating cost in the industry, according to the company.

The knives on Dundee Tyre’s original machine can be sharpened and reused three times. At that point, the knives will be transferred to the company’s new Hybrid shredder, where they can be used four more times, the equipment manufacturer says. Having shredders where the knives can be reused seven times has a drastic impact on operating costs and allows Dundee Tyre to be very competitive in the marketplace, CM adds.

CM’s new line of Hybrid shredders includes seven models that can be used for size reduction, confidential destruction and preprocessing for recycling applications. All new machines can be fitted with one-piece hook-and-shear knives or with CM’s patented replaceable insert knives, depending on the application, the equipment manufacturer says.

To promote this new line of shredders, CM says it has redeveloped its website at www.cmshredders.com to offer visitors richer insight and information into the company’s recycling equipment and other size-reduction and shredding solutions. This newly redesigned website offers access to information and videos that provide a more comprehensive understanding of the company’s products and services.

"We are excited about our new website launch and the robust information it provides for customers, partners and media to better understand CM's best-in-class recycling technologies," says Charles Astafan, CM general manager. "We believe that this new site will allow our visitors to have a very informative experience as we continue to grow and increase our market presence.”
