United Kingdom-based paperboard and packaging producer DS Smith is now supplying recycled-content and recyclable packaging for Philips Home Appliance products made by Netherlands-based Versuni.
“We have collaborated with Versuni, home to some of the world’s most renowned domestic appliance brands, to produce and deliver 100 percent recycled and recyclable packaging solutions,” DS Smith says.
The boxes being supplied to the appliance manufacturer are made with 100 percent recycled paper with durability for transportation, DS Smith adds.
“This sustainable packaging will be extended across Versuni’s Philips home appliance global product portfolio and will initially be applied to Versuni’s top performing Philip’s products including the Air Fryer, Espresso Machine with Latte Go, Stream Iron 3000 series, Air Purifier and Cordless Vacuum 800 series. Versuni will then expand this to encompass its full Philips portfolio globally," the company says.
DS Smith also is working with Versuni to replace plastic protection buffers within the box with fiber-based packaging alternatives. DS Smith bills that effort as another step forward in fulfilling Versuni’s commitment to deliver 100 percent plastic-free packaging within the next four years.
“Our purpose is to redefine packaging for a changing world, and we can only do this in partnership, so it is encouraging to see a company such as Versuni proactively work with us toward a more circular economy,” says Wouter van Tol, head of sustainability and community affairs at DS Smith. “We are so proud to help them achieve this.
“We have partnered with Versuni across the design and production process to replace plastics and optimize sustainable supply chain processes. Our pioneering Circular Design Metrics tool was an essential driver for the innovative solutions we have achieved.”
Other measures taken by the two companies include reducing the outer printed area of the packaging box, resulting in a 65 percent reduction in ink usage, according to DS Smith.
