DRMS Opens Bid for Scrap

Agency hopes to make announcement on bid winner by early next year.

The Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service opened bids for the "Scrap Venture" initiative -- Sale No. 99-4001, late last week.

Four bids were received from companies that had been invited to submit after their technical proposals had been reviewed and found technically qualified. The opened bids will now be reviewed and evaluated to determine acceptability, responsiveness and responsibility in meeting the requirements set forth in the Invitation for Bid and Federal Property Management Regulations.

DRMS expects to award the contract by the middle of next month.

Bidders are competing for a multi-year contract for sale of scrap material at locations nationwide. These bids were part of the "Scrap Venture" initiative, which offers the high bidder the chance to purchase nearly all scrap material collected by DRMS within the continental United States and Alaska. The sales contract will be for at least seven years, and DRMS has the option to extend the term to up to 10 years.

Industry suggestions received at the DRMS Scrap Venture Industry Forum were used to develop the SV Initiative, and guidance was offered to potential bidders on line at http://www.drms.dla.mil/sales/scrap/scrap_venture/scrap_venture.html  to assist parties in creating a technical proposal.
