Illinois Company Opens Single-Stream Plant with Bollegraaf System

Diversified Systems’ facility will be capable of processing more than 50 tons per hour of recyclables.

Diversified Recycling, based in Homewood, Ill., recently started a single-stream systems recycling system that is capable of processing more than 50 tons of recyclables per hour. The company chose a turnkey advanced curbside sorting system from Bollegraaf. According to a release, the decision was made after Diversified invested significant time researching other processing facilities in the United States and Europe. The recycling company’s facility services customers throughout South Chicago, northwest Indiana and south suburbs.

The single-stream system design includes a large drum feeder, an air suction system for HDPE bag removal and eight Lubo Screens – a triple deck unit for OCC removal, four ONP screens, two angled sorters and a glass breaking/removal screen. The facility also includes seven Titech Optical Sorters that reduce the amount of labor needed to sort the material. Following the screens there are five quality control sorters for all the #8 News and OCC.

The commingled line has been designed to allow for complete automation and requires no sorters, yet produces clean PET, both colored and natural HDPE, along with ferrous, aluminum and plastics #3-7. The only sorter required is on the final residue line for the few recyclables that may be missed.

The system uses a Bollegraaf HBC-140 baler for fiber processing and an HBC-120 for all container baling.
