Diversified Recycling/Homewood Disposal in East Hazel Crest, Ill., is one of several dedicated curbside single-stream material recovery facilities (MRFs) operating in the Midwest capable of processing more than 50 tons per hour of this material. The company recently expanded and upgraded its three-year-old system to reflect changing markets in incorporate the latest technology, reports equipment company Van Dyk Recycling Solutions, based in Stamford, Conn.
Van Dyk designed and installed the turnkey processing system currently in operation at Diversified as well as the upgrade, which includes more Titech optical sorters and a Lubo ballistic separator.
Van Dyk says the installation of the ballistic separator at a single-stream MRF in Rhode Island has demonstrated that the unit is a highly effective method of removing plastic film/bags and tramp fiber from the container stream. The device continues to find greater use in single-stream, municipal solid waste (MSW) and waste-to-energy applications, Van Dyk says.
Van Dyk says the Lubo ballistic separator is expected to allow Diversified to be more flexible and to increase the company’s throughput and provide for cleaner end products. The expansion also includes a method for more effective glass removal from the stream, Van Dyk reports.
Van Dyk Recycling Solutions is the exclusive North American distributor of Bollegraaf, Lubo, and Titech machinery. The company says it specializes in proven technology in the fields of sizing, sorting, recovery and baling of recyclables.
