Dispute Over C&D Transfer Station Heats Up

Proposed site enters public comment period.

The debate over the proposed material transfer station at the Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park in Raynham, Mass., is about to heat up as the proposed project has entered a three-week public commentary period, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is preparing to begin the 21-day public comment period as part of the proposal’s permitting process, according to the report.

The Globe reports that on July 7, Christopher Carney, whose family owns the dog track and the surrounding 200 acres, submitted an application for a transfer station that would process approximately 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris per day.

Following the comment period, Carney will have 19 days to respond to concerns voiced by the public. The DEP then has 20 days to decide whether it will approve the project.
