The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has fined Tire Advantage Group Inc. $6,000 for waste tire processing permit violations at its facility in Hemlock Township, Pa.
During a July inspection, DEP staff found numerous violations that had not been corrected following similar inspections in April and May.
Violations included storing waste tires and tire shreds on the ground; accepting waste truck tires for processing; installing a car tire de-beader without DEP approval; failing to have a preparedness, prevention and contingency plan available for review; failing to have records available documenting the volume of waste tires processed and volume of tire shreds shipped; and failing to comply with permit conditions.
“This company’s on-going compliance problems were never properly corrected, so DEP has assessed an appropriate civil penalty,” said DEP Northcentral Regional Director Robert Yowell.
Tire Advantage Group has since asked the department to terminate its permit. DEP staff will inspect the facility to be sure that all waste tires and tire shreds have been removed from the property.
