The computer manufacturer Dell, Round Rock, Texas, has announced that an additional 319 Goodwill Industries International donation sites have joined Dell’s Reconnect program.
Reconnect, managed by Dell and Goodwill Industries, began in Austin, Texas, in 2004.
With the expansion, Dell says its Reconnect electronics take-back program will be offered in 77 additional counties across Florida, Ohio, Alabama and Kansas. The company says more than 2,600 Goodwill drop-off locations in the United States and Canada are giving more than 6.8 million households access to free electronics recycling.
According to Dell, the expansion of its Reconnect program will divert an additional 7.5 million pounds of unwanted electronics from landfills annually.
Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International, says, "The Dell Reconnect program aligns Goodwill and Dell's environmental sustainability efforts and translates into jobs and training opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantages. Any revenues from the program enable us to enhance and expand our overall services to the community and create new work opportunities."
