Delaware Agency Seeks Public Comments on Loan Program

Deadline for submissions is Nov. 12, 2010.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, in conjunction with the Recycling Public Advisory Council, is seeking public comments by Nov. 12 on its draft Universal Recycling Grant and Low Interest Loan Program.

The program, established by the Delaware Solid Waste Recycling Law, aims to assist businesses that collect, transport, process and market recyclable materials with:

• Source separated recyclables collection and processing with emphasis on start- up costs for residential single-stream recyclables collection; and

• start-up costs for initiatives which result in recycling solid waste materials which would otherwise be landfilled, with emphasis on commercial waste.

As required by Delaware’s Universal Recycling legislation, input from stakeholders engaged in recycling is being sought on the draft grant and loan program.

When implemented in 2011, the state says that Universal Recycling will significantly expand recycling in the state and divert a substantial amount of waste from disposal in landfills.

The draft Universal Recycling Grant and Low Interest Loan Guidance documents are available for review at: http://www.awm.delaware.gov/Pages/RecyclingGrants.aspx.

People interested in submitting comments are asked to send them to james.short@state.de.us by 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 12. For additional information, please contact Jim Short at 302-739-9403.
