Delaware Offers Grants, Low-Interest Loans

Up to $2 million available for entities responsible for compliance with multi-family recycling laws.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has announced it is accepting applications for the second offering of Universal Recycling Grant and Low Interest Loans. Up to $2.5 million will be available for this opportunity, and applications must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012. 
 
Emphasis will be placed on providing assistance to those entities responsible for compliance with the multi-family component of the Delaware Solid Waste Recycling Law. Under the legislation, multi-family residential homes, such as apartments and condominiums, must be provided with single-stream recycling services no later than Jan. 1, 2013.
 
The grant and loan program is designed to assist entities engaged in the business of collecting, transporting, processing or marketing recyclables with implementation of recycling collection services. 
 
Eligible applicants who meet these criteria are encouraged to establish cooperative partnerships with other parties, including private industry. Workshops will be held on the following dates:
 
  • Feb. 21, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Newark Free Library, 750 Library Ave., Newark, DE 19711; 
  • Feb. 22, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m.at the Georgetown Public Library, 10 West Pine St., Georgetown, DE 19947; and
  • Feb. 23, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Dover – DNREC Richardson & Robbins Building auditorium, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
