Preservation Station, a volunteer effort to preserve and reuse old building parts in Burlington, has won an award by the Iowa Recycling Association. The statewide group gave the company, in its first year of operation, its Recycling Project of the Year award. It is one of 12 awards given annually during a recognition dinner.
The program involves volunteers working to remove reusable building and house parts from structures before they are demolished.
The parts are then made available to the public. Proceeds from sales go to the Heritage Trust for loan and grant programs and special projects.
"The Iowa Recycling Awards are the first in the state to provide comprehensive recognition to Iowa's diverse recycling industry," said Dave Cretors of the IRA. "The awards showcase the groups and individuals that exemplify the best of recycling in Iowa."
The Iowa Recycling Awards are sponsored by the Iowa Recycling Association, Iowa Association of Utilities, Iowa Audubon Society of Iowa, Iowa Conservation Education Council, Iowa Department of Economic Development/Recycle Iowa, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Environmental Council, Iowa League of Cities, Iowa State Association of Counties, Iowa Utility Association, Iowa Waste Reduction Center, Recycling & Reuse Technology Transfer Center and Trees Forever.
