DataLock, based in Mt. Vernon, Ill., has installed a new pulverizer that will enhance the organization’s ability to destroy sensitive materials. The pulverizer/grinder, from Vecoplan, was installed the first week of October.
The shredder will be used for any document or product destruction, including not only paper, but computer media, hard drives, plastics and wood. "We are no longer limited to destroying only paper," says founder Mary Burgan, "and all by-product of the destruction process that can be recycled, will be." The shredder is capable of processing 6,000 pounds of material an hour.
The grinder goes beyond strip and cross-cut shredding and utilizes interchangeable screens that can create a sawdust-like output. This machine even has the power to destroy bowling balls.
The company was assisted in the purchase of the pulverizer by a $50,000 grant from the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. DataLock has received five $50,000 grants over the last four years because of the company’s commitment to recycling and ability to divert materials out of landfills.
Additionally, DataLock stays ahead of its competition through equipment upgrades and higher professional standards. DataLock has upgraded shredding equipment five times over the last four years, taking the machinery's horsepower from 7 1/2 to 100.
