Dart Container Corp. has opened a foam recycling drop-off site in Aurora, Ill., the first one it has opened in the state. Additionally, according to Dart, the drop-off site is the first site in the state where the public can drop off foam plastics, including cups, egg cartons, and various types of molded foam at no cost. The facility brings to ten the number of locations in the country Dart has opened.
The foam plastics dropped off at the Dart site is compacted and shipped to a company where the material is used as a raw material for another product. Material dropped off needs to have the number 6 marked on the package.
To mark the opening, Dart held a ribbon-cutting Nov. 12 outside the facility.
The company is asking that anyone looking to deposit the foam plastic at the drop-off site to rinse cups and containers to rid them of food and place foam in a clear plastic bag. Straws, lids, foam insulation and packaging peanuts will not be accepted.
