The Eagan (Minnesota) Patch reports Dakota County, Minnesota, will begin charging a $10 fee to collect and recycle all televisions and monitors at Eagan’s facility, The Recycling Zone.
“The cost to collect, process and recycle electronics continues to climb due to lower market prices for some computer parts like copper and plastic,” according to a press release from the county dated Thursday, July 28, 2016. “There are also fewer local options for dismantling electronics.”
The Recycling Zone will continue to accept other items without charge, according to the article.
“Electronics require special recycling and do not belong in curbside trash or recycling carts,” according to the news release. “They contain heavy metals such as lead, cadmium or mercury that are harmful to human health and can pollute our air, land and water if not managed properly.”
