DAK Americas reports that the steel structure and reactors are in place and the construction of its PET resin unit at its Cooper River Site near Charleston, S.C., is on schedule. The new plant, expected to be operational by April 2003, will double the company¹s total PET resin production capacity to 660 million pounds and is designed to incorporate post consumer recycle for those applications requiring recycled content. “DAK Americas is very committed to the environment,² said Tom Sherlock, business director for DAK Resins. “Building in the PCR option will enable us to provide customers an environmentally friendly product that certain PET markets are requesting.” Furthermore, the company also announced that the new facility will manufacture Laser+ HS for use in hot-fill PET beverage and food packaging applications.
