Curbside Management, an Asheville, North Carolina-based company also known as Curbie that provides residential, commercial and industrial recycling services in western North Carolina, has acquired Sonoco Recycling’s Candler, North Carolina, facility, located at 1291 Sand Hill Road.

This strategic move expands Curbie’s operational footprint and reinforces its commitment to sustainability and community engagement, the company says.

The Candler facility, previously operated by Sonoco Recycling and American Recycling prior to that, is a material recovery facility (MRF) that processes a diverse range of recyclables, including paper, plastics, metals and glass. With this acquisition, Curbie says it will increase its service reach and improve logistical flexibility by diversifying operations across multiple sites.

The addition of the Candler MRF will serve as a valuable complement to the company's operations, Curbie says, allowing it to better manage and diversify operations based on geographic demand, capacity needs, material types, as well as greater distribution of volume throughout the region.

The acquisition also allows Curbie to extend its service coverage and provide even more accessible recycling options to communities throughout western North Carolina.

Curbside Management began service in 1991 as a private recycling collection company serving residents in the Asheville, North Carolina, area. Now serving nearly 40,000 residents in four different municipalities across Buncombe County, North Carolina, Curbie also offers commercial and industrial recycling solutions, operating a fleet of 15 vehicles, as well as a MRF in Woodfin, North Carolina, that in addition to its own collected materials, processes materials received from throughout the state.

Curbside Management has a staff of more than 70 full-time employees in the various roles of collection, processing, administration and maintenance. This acquisition will add 15 to 20 employees.
