The Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority (CRRA) is offering bulk paper shredding and paper recycling at its ten electronics collection events scheduled for this spring. The CRRA also is offering document destruction services at its seven residential electronics collections scheduled for this fall.
Since beginning the electronics recycling in 1999, CRRA has handled more than 5.3 million pounds of electronics.
“People need the peace of mind that personal information is safeguarded so we’re delighted to be able to offer this bulk shredding service, which will also save people the chore of running all that material through a small home paper shredder,” says Thomas Gaffey, CRRA’s head of recycling.
To accomplish this, CRRA has contracted with Shred-It’s Cheshire, Ct., office. Residents of participating towns can bring Shred-It anything made of paper. Plastics must be removed before bringing the paper for recycling.
Eco International, Vestal, N.Y., will handle processing of the obsolete electronics. At their facility, Eco will dismantle the electronics into various raw materials.
