Yardley, Pennsylvania-based Crown Holdings Inc. has announced an initiative called Twentyby30, which it calls “a robust program that outlines 20 measurable environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals to be completed by 2030 or sooner.”
The maker of steel and aluminum cans and other forms of packaging divides the 20 goals into five categories, one of which is called Optimum Circularity and addresses the use of recycled content and the recycling of discarded packaging.
Five goals are listed in that category, including sending zero waste from Crown operations to landfill; supporting increased metal packaging recycling rates in Crown’s major markets in collaboration with industry associations and other partners; maintaining or improving the industrywide average of recycled content in metal cans and shipping boxes and cartons in collaboration with suppliers, industry associations and other partners; increasing the recycled content of the plastic strapping Crown makes by 10 percent globally; and making its aluminum and steel cans 10 percent lighter in weight.
Crown Holdings makes steel food cans, aluminum beverage cans, aerosol cans, caps for jars and bottles and plastic strapping for shipping applications.
The company employs more than 33,000 people in 47 countries and achieved net sales of $11.7 billion in 2019 in North America, Asia, Europe, South America, the Middle East and North Africa.
