The Cronimet Group, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, has successfully completed its first registration according to the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) regulation of the European Union. Deadline for registration was Nov. 30, 2010.
According to Cronimet, the EC regulations control the registration, evaluation, approval and limitation of chemicals, known as REACH. This includes all participants of a delivery chain of chemical substances – from the manufacturer, processor and the trader to the end-user. It applies to all chemical substances, regardless of the materials’ characteristics. Products are covered by REACH when they include certain substances or release substances.
In a release, The Cronimet Group says that it has registered 22 chemicals, which, it says, is an important requirement for a further production and trading of raw materials on the European market.
“Many of our products are subject to the chemical law,” says Gudrun Kutscher, Cronimet’s REACH coordinator. To guarantee a secure use and to fulfill legal requirements, the company set up a project team in 2008.
“We have shown great commitment in meeting the REACH requirements. It was important for us to document the high security standard of our products. This also means that our business is secured by this registration process, and we can guarantee high quality products for our customers,” says Kutscher.
Cronimet notes that another aspect achieved by obtaining REACH is the ability of the company to strengthen the trust with its customers, Kutscher adds.
An important point of view within the project work was the successful support of their partners outside the European Union. “Certainly, the implementation of REACH in the Cronimet Group is a competitive advantage for us because many non-European suppliers avoid the complex undertaking that is connected with the registration,” says Kai Lohmann, managing director of Cronimet Holding GmbH. “The REACH registration of the Cronimet Group plays a significant role in supplying the European Economy with important raw materials because non registered substances may not be imported into the EU.”
REACH’s next deadline will expire in 2013. Until then, 15 more chemicals in the Cronimet portfolio are expected to be registered. The company expects that 40 registration dossiers will be sent to the REACH by the end of the registration in 2018.
