CRE Earns NAID Certification

Certification includes endorsement for print media and hard drive destruction.

Commodity Resource & Environmental Inc. (CRE), a Burbank, Calif.-based silver refining company, has been awarded AAA Certification from the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), the Phoenix based trade association representing the information destruction industry. The certification endorsements include the destruction of printed media and hard drives.

CRE President and CEO Larry DeWitt says, “When CRE was founded in 1980, customers focused primarily on the silver values from their surplus films but paid little attention to the destruction of the paper radiology records associated with the silver recovery from their outdated X-ray film. However, with the development and enforcement of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations for medical records, it became apparent that our customer base needed more assurance of proper destruction for these records.”

He continues, “To address this issue, CRE purchased shredders and balers in 2006 and is extremely pleased to have moved another giant step forward with our recent AAA NAID Certification.”

CRE was founded in 1980 as a full-service silver recovery/silver refining company. The company’s primary customers include records management and records destruction companies, though the company also has contracted arrangements with many hospitals and medical groups performing radiology services. The company offers refining services to extract silver from scrap X-ray films.

CRE refines more than 24 million pounds of scrap X-rays and associated radiology documents for silver recovery and destruction annually. The company’s silver refinery occupies 5 acres in Mojave, Calif.
