Computer Recyclers of America (CRA) President and CEO John S. Shegerian has joined California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a delegation of 75 other California employers on a six-day trade mission to China.
The trade mission began Nov. 14 and includes stops in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, where it will conclude Nov. 19.
According to a press release from CRA, Shegerian plans to warn Chinese officials about the health and environmental threats that result from improperly recycling electronics. He also plans to offer his expertise to help set up state-of-the-art electronics recycling plants throughout the country.
“China is bursting with economic activity and they’re beginning to significantly address some of their environmental consequences,” Shegerian says. “I want to show their corporate and government leaders that a model for environmental protection and economic growth exists in the burgeoning sector of electronic waste recycling. Rather than too often being the recipient of global eWaste, China could create its own internal markets for properly dealing with this growing international waste stream.”
Shegerian has been writing about the trade mission via a daily blog on the Fresno Bee's Web site at www.fresnobee.com (click “Beehive/Blog” on the left of the homepage) and on CRA’s Web site at www.computerrecylersofamerica.com.
