San Diego-based CP Group (CPG), a provider of recycling and sorting equipment, has completed a 1.07-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar installation at its headquarters office and production facility.
CPG says the solar array was provided by Texas-based Holt Renewables, a design-build services firm that focuses on commercial-scale renewable energy infrastructure
The project has converted more than 80,000 square feet of formerly unused roof space at CPG’s facility into what the company calls “a clean energy asset that will deliver long-term savings and sustainability benefits.”
The system, made up of over 2,000 solar panels, is expected to generate 1.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, offsetting nearly 70 percent of CPG’s anticipated annual electrical consumption, says the equipment firm.
The calculation for a 30-year lifespan for the installation predicts more than $10 million in energy cost savings accrued to CPG while it also reduces the company’s carbon footprint.
“Partnering with Holt Renewables enables us to lower our operating costs and reduce our environmental impact,” says Michael Whitney, CPG’s vice president of operations. “This project shows our commitment to sustainability and innovation in our industry.”
Holt Renewables served as the engineering, procurement and construction partner, managing the project from design through installation, according to CPG.
“This project highlights how companies can capture both financial and environmental value,” says Kevin Chavez, general manager of Holt Renewables. “We are proud to support CPG’s sustainability goals and demonstrate the real-world impact of commercial solar.”
CP Group offers material recovery facility (MRF) design, integration and optimization services to the recycling industry, including sorting technologies and automated processing systems designed to maximize recovery rates while minimizing operational costs.
Holt Renewables describes itself as a commercial solar energy systems provider that since its founding in 2012 has maintained a safety record with zero recordable incidents.
