Cox Enterprises has announced its comprehensive Atlanta headquarters recycling program, Cox Conserves, has led to more than 1,000 tons of materials being reused or diverted from landfills since 2006. Additionally, the company has composted more than 20 tons of food scraps and materials from a campus cafeteria since 2014, resulting in nearly a 75 percent diversion rate.
“Waste reduction is a visible way to show our commitment to sustainable business practices. It also directly engages our employees,” says Cox Enterprises Senior Vice President of Finance Lacey Lewis, who oversees the company’s sustainability operations.
The company explains that its approach to recycling is a holistic one that employs three strategies: waste reduction, strategic partnerships for e-waste and engagement with customers and employees.
Cox Enterprises’ e-waste program provides ways to extend equipment life cycles, ensure sustainable disposal and promote reuse through redeployment, remarketing and charitable donation.
The company has waste reduction programs at locations across the nation.
Cox Enterprises is a leading communications, media and automotive services company. The company boasts revenues of more than $17 billion and approximately 50,000 employees.
Launched in 2007 by Chairman Jim Kennedy, Cox Conserves is Cox Enterprises’ national sustainability program that focuses on reducing waste and energy consumption, as well as conserving water. The program engages each of the company’s major subsidiaries (Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group) and encourages Cox Enterprises’ employees and their families to engage in eco-friendly practices.
The company says its sustainability goals are to send zero waste to landfill by 2024 and become carbon and water neutral by 2044. Cox Enterprises also presents the Cox Conserves Sustainability Survey, a nationwide survey that examines sustainability opportunities and challenges for small and medium-sized businesses.
