Covanta Energy Corp. has signed a 20-year agreement with municipalities in the Bristol, Conn., area. Through the agreement, Covanta will provide waste disposal at its Bristol Resource Recovery Facility. Additionally, the agreement provides for bundled services including recycling, bulky waste disposal, electronic scrap recycling and the management of the region’s organics/composting.
The agreement continues a long-term partnership between Covanta and the municipalities that make up the Bristol Resource Recovery Facility Operating Committee (BRRFOC) that began with the development and construction of the Bristol Resource Recovery Facility in 1988. The existing “service fee” agreement will end June 30, 2014 at which time the new “tip fee” agreement will commence. Under the new agreement, BRRFOC municipalities will supply about half of the facility’s waste disposal capacity.
BRRFOC processes around 650 tons of municipal solid waste per day into 16 megawatts of electricity.
Covanta says that by including all facets of sustainable waste management in the bundled services agreement the municipalities will save money with stable, predictable rates over the 20 year life of the agreement.

SENNEBOGEN 340G telehandler improves the view in Macon County, NC
An elevated cab is one of several features improving operational efficiency at the Macon County Solid Waste Management agency in North Carolina. When it comes to waste management, efficiency, safety and reliability are priorities driving decisions from day one, according to staff members of the Macon County Solid Waste Management Department in western North Carolina. The agency operates a recycling plant in a facility originally designed to bale incoming materials. More recently, the building has undergone significant transformations centered around one machine: a SENNEBOGEN telehandler (telescopic handler).
