The shipment of corrugated products shot up by 7.1 percent for March, compared to figures the same time last year. For the month shipments stand at 33.487 billion square feet.
Leading the way was the western region of the United States, which saw shipments of corrugated products climb by 10 percent.
All regions of the country showed strong improvements for the month. The Northeastern US realized a 7.2 percent improvement; the Southeast, up 6.7 percent; the North Central, up 6.6 percent; the East Central, up 6.2 percent; and the South Central U.S., up 5.8 percent.
For the first three months shipments also posted an improvement. For this year shipments stand at 95.107 billion square feet, a 3.3 percent improvement from figures the same time last year.
While all six regions of the country posted improvements, the Western U.S. showed the strongest improvement over the first three months of the year with an increase of 5 percent.
Along with an improved shipment total, the consumption figure for March stands at 2.564 million tons, a 6.7 percent improvement from figures the same time last year. For the first three months containerboard consumption increased by 3.8 percent to 7.344 million tons.
